in “Piano solo”

Music composer and pianist Rocco were lying encompasses different souls: the delicate, introspective, that shakes the notes of melancholy and romance; the playful and ironic, dancing carefree playful rhythms; the strong and sincere, which evokes discreetly the earth mother of Lucania. His piano concertos only are the revelation of these souls, capable of creating dreamy atmospheres and magical, spread mild emotions in the air until you reach the heart of the listener, to set minds in open spaces and suspended in full.

Rocco were lying looks back on an artistic journey articulated, characterized by the most varied experiences - from blues to jazz, from folk music to the band music, from prog-rock ethno-funk - and from collaborations with artists from different backgrounds, which he has led in recent years to arrive at a minimal music sui generis, who live leaves room for improvisation typical of jazz. Al suo interno dieci brani e un preludio per pianoforte che compongono un diario di appunti, un sentiero sonoro costellato di atmosfere rarefatte, pregne di interrogativi più che di risposte solide e rumorose, una musica ai confini del silenzio, in cui si genera la profonda e naturale propensione alla riflessione.

In “Piano solo” Rocco Mentissi esegue solo brani originali da lui composti: da una parte le tracce del suo primo album “traMe”, proposals with new sound nuances and variations impromptu themes suggested by the feelings of the moment, dall’altra le più recenti composizioni confluite nel progetto discografico “Pais”, che vede la fusione di più linguaggi artistici e il coinvolgimento di altri strumentisti che gravitano intorno al suo prediletto e inseparabile pianoforte, strumento centrale della sua musica e particolarmente confacente al proprio stile compositivo.

Attraverso i nove brani contenuti nel concept-album “Pais”, uscito a novembre 2018, Rocco Mentissi ripercorre i ricordi della sua infanzia: le corse a perdifiato; gli infiniti giochi in strada sotto gli occhi vigili del vicinato sempre affettuoso; il nido rassicurante della casa dei nonni, contadini saggi, semplici, ma sereni; la terra, in cui si giungeva in sella ad un asino, vissuta prima come prolungamento del proprio corpo, dopo come un destino, come centro del proprio universo, in base al quale distinguere la distanza, la vicinanza, la solitudine, la compagnia, l’odio, l’amore.
